When you have cancer the last thing you need to worry about is money!

Fundraiser for Tina Visnar who is battling advanced secondary breast cancer

The financial burden of cancer is enormous and especially so for young mother of one, Tina Visnar. In fact, just in the last 6 months Tina's treatments have cost in excess of $35,000. Most of which receives no reimbursement! Friends and family are now rallying to help this gorgeous family with a fundraiser to help pay for ongoing medical expenses.

      What is Tina's story?

In February 2008, Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer (her beautiful daughter Olivia was not even 1 year old!) Following surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy life looked positive as Tina's cancer was in remission. Back to work with the coffee business and plans to study Childcare at Crows Nest TAFE.

But in December 2010, the family was confronted with the shocking news that Tina had advanced secondary breast cancer which had spread to her bones, lymph nodes and brain.

Tina once again is convincing all of us that she can beat this disease, over the last few months she has embarked on lots of alternative treatments, organic diet, acupuncture as well as radiotherapy and medication.

What you might not know is that Medicare and private health insurance only cover up to 50% of Tina's treatment costs. The loss of one income and additional expenses has placed an enormous financial burden on the family.

But a new treatment, recommended by specialists, has now placed the family in an even greater financial stress.

In July, Tina underwent necessary surgery and a novel new treatment called Gamma Knife Treatment to remove the cancer on her brain. At a staggering cost of $25,000 (requiring upfront payment) this was considered the best treatment option for Tina due to the high success rate. There is no reimbursement for the procedure or the regular $500 scans needed to monitor her progress.

What are we doing to assist Tina and her family?

Friends, family and the local community have now rallied together to try and help the financial plight of Tina and her family as they continue to fund ongoing medical expenses.
