      Building the Quantum Economy

2019 NSW SCIENCE & RESEARCH BREAKFAST SEMINAR SERIES Professor Michael J. Biercuk from Q-CTRL and The University of Sydney, presents: Building the Quantum Economy No current field of research and development comes close to matching the hype – and the hope – that surrounds quantum computing. In the words of leading quantum physicist, Professor Michael Biercuk, “quantum technology will likely be as transformational in the 21st century as electricity was in the 19th”. Internationally, the race is well and truly on to develop the first functional quantum computer and Australian researchers are recognised as global leaders, attracting tens of millions of dollars of international capital investment to NSW across multiple universities. In late 2017 Professor Biercuk founded Q-CTRL, Australia’s first venture capital-backed quantum technology startup, based on his team’s academic work at The University of Sydney and at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems. Q-CTRL collaborates deeply with IBM, one of the world’s most advanced developers in quantum technology, and has a global customer base. Other corporate giants are on board: Microsoft is investing in university quantum research, Lockheed Martin supports Professor Biercuk’s academic lab, and the Commonwealth Bank has been an early supporter. The NSW Government, through its Quantum Computing Fund, has also invested heavily in quantum technology. To find out about the future of quantum technology and the opportunity that Australia has to shape a totally new industry, join Professor Michael Biercuk as he presents: Building the Quantum Economy.
